How To Create Great Graphics For Your Blog

As a blogger you know how important graphics are to the success of your blog as well as on social media. We live in a time where the reader’s attention span has shortened online and if you do not entice them with an eye-catching graphic, you are going to have a difficult time trying to convince them you are worth their time as reading your content is concerned.

    Graphic Design Online

Before you overwhelm yourself with the thought of having to create amazing content AND graphics, let me ease your mind. There is an awesome FREE resource that allows you to create great graphics for your website or blog, documents, and social media platforms. Introducing Canva!

Canva is an online design tool that includes easy-to-use functionality, which allows the designer to create beautiful visual content that gets shared. Here at CGWB, we know as bloggers ourselves how important it is to have great visual content that is shareable, which is why we decided to share with you some of our tips to using Canva to create a variety of graphic options online.

    How-To Use Canva

    1. Keep your branding consistent. Before you embark on your first design, think about the fluidity of your brand. Use your website colors and current design, to inspire any graphics you create. If you have established your brand’s colors but do not have a website, be sure to include the colors whenever and wherever you can within your graphic design.
    2. Use complementary colors. You want your design to be visually appealing as well as readable when text is involved. Therefore, it is very important that you remember your audience when you create your designs. While Canva has a seemingly endless amount of features and design options, be careful not to get design crazy and have a graphic that your viewers do not care to share because they cannot read it.
    3. Optimize your design. When you’re ready to start designing, Canva has various preset dimensions as well as a custom dimension option for your creations. Try your hand at the preset options to ensure you have the proper sizing for optimal viewing on your online platforms. Each social media platform as well as your website will have specific size requirements to ensure your graphic is displayed optimally.

Start Designing + Creating Graphics Online

Canva is a great option for the blogger on a budget. Whether you need to create a few quick images for social media, switch up your blog’s header or have recently started your email marketing campaign, Canva is one of the best options for you to create consistently branded designs.

If you are ready to start your very first Canva graphic or would like to take your designs to another level, check out Canva’s Design School. They have a lot of free tutorials to inspire your innate graphic designer but if you are looking for specific tips on any of the graphics you have seen featured by the CGWB brand, leave us a comment below!

The Best Caribbean Hashtags of 2015

A hashtag is simply a way for people to search for tweets (or posts on Instagram and Facebook) that have a common topic. Whether you’re using the hashtag, or become one — it’s the best way to get noticed on social media.

People from all different cultures and backgrounds are using hashtags to build community online, to galvanize support for a cause, and to tell stories on their own terms.

So often cultures are represented through a very one-dimensional lens in the mainstream media. Social media has placed some of the power to control the narrative and tell authentic stories back into the hands of people without big budgets and other resources.

2015 was the year of the Caribbean hashtag takeover and it was grand. Everything from #growingupcaribbean to #christmaswithcaribbeanfamilies is sure to give you a laugh and remind you that our experience is unique and collective at the same time.
